What to do in Barcelona in the winter and in December´s Long Holiday Weekend?

The December´s Long HolidayWeekend is a classic to disconnect and to arrive full of energy at the Christmas break, and the Catalan capital is an excellent destination for it. This article is full of ideas to help you decide what to do in Barcelona in the winter.

When is the December´s Long Holiday Weekend?

This long weekend will begin on Friday, December 6th, on what´s known as “Constitution Day” in Spain, and will (unfortunately) end on Sunday, December 8th.

Therefore, some regions have decided to move Sunday´s holiday to the next Monday.

Weather in Barcelona during the December´s Long Holiday Weekend

Being next to the sea, Barcelona´s weather is relatively mild throughout the year. Even more if compared to other cities in Spain and Europe.

In December, for example, the average temperature is 14 degrees (Celsius), going as low as 8 degrees and a maximum high of around 16 degrees.

This means an ideal time to walk, looking for the best gifts or signing up any of the great cultural events around town.

What to do in Barcelona during winter?

Sightseeing, of course. But without August´s heat! And with the possibility of discovering all of Gaudí´s work, following the many modernist routes. And if it rains, we recommend you to visit the Aquarium, with over 450 different species.

Shopping. A classic from the days before Christmas. And to do it in the most efficient way, we´ve prepared a summary of all the shopping centers and outlets in Barcelona.

Taste the local cuisine. Including “tapas” in some of the most traditional bars.

Imitate the locals. Discover the city by bike, eat from the “menu”, choose the most authentic places, buy tickets for concerts, plays...

Stroll by the beautiful beaches and take the opportunity to eat a paella with sea views, leaving the stress behind. You can even get adventurous, trying the mythical Camí de Ronda (from Vilanova to Sitges, for example).

Practice winter sports. The closest ski resort in the city is La Molina, about 110 kilometers away, what makes it perfect for a day trip. And this is only one of the many sky resorts around Barcelona.

Run without heat. These are the 10 best routes to run in the city.

Wine tastings. Catalonia has 11 Designations of Origin and some wineries are very close to Barcelona. So, there is nothing easier than planning an express trip to see the vineyards.

Route through the most beautiful medieval villages in the surrounding area, with a special charm with the winter lights.
